John Lawrence Drennan, 53, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at his home in Mount Pleasant, SC on Friday, November 23, 2018. His memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends in the Mount Pleasant Chapel on Saturday from 10:00 am until time of the service. John was the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. F. Richard Drennan of Pittsfield, MA. He was born on June 27, 1965 and was the youngest of 5 Irish children. His birth brought tremendous joy to the Drennan household. He was a 1983 graduate of St Joseph High School, a 1987 graduate of the Citadel Military College in Charleston, SC, and a 1990 graduate of University of South Carolina Law School. He was a natural athlete from an early age, which included his tenure as the 3rd baseman for a State Champion little league team in 1967. He captained his high school hockey team and his high school golf team which were also state championship teams. He also competed for the Citadel Varsity golf team. After serving as a police officer on Martha’s Vineyard, John was a practicing attorney in South Carolina. He began his career working in the public defender’s office, then later at Joye Law Firm, specializing in criminal and traffic defense. Subsequently, he founded and operated the Drennan Law Firm. He was a nationally recognized, cutting-edge criminal defense attorney and, moreover, a leader in his field. John was an extremely hardworking trial attorney and he persisted in serving people to the end. He was a generous man of the people who made a difference in people’s lives and represented them zealously in their legal matters. John loved the South and loved Charleston, especially since the people of Charleston made him feel at home and gracefully embraced him. He was survived by his beloved two children, Allison and John “Jack” Drennan and their mother, Joann Drennan of Mt. Pleasant, SC, as well as his siblings Atty. Richard X. Drennan, of Pittsfield, MA, Dr. Peter J. Drennan and his wife Michele, of Longmeadow, MA, Paul Drennan, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Mary Hanlon and her husband Bill, of Melrose, MA, and many nieces and nephews and his beloved cat Vinny. He was predeceased by his parents F.
