John Hogshead Mayer, 78, of Killeen, Texas, succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease in San Antonio surrounded by his family on November 26, 2016.
John is survived by son Paul (Christine) Mayer, daughter Suzy (Billy) Vaile; brothers Gene (Beverly) Mayer, and Paul (Jana) Tillson; and many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. John was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. His wife of 53 years, Nancy Zumar Mayer, and sister, McChesney Mayer Grabau, preceded John in death.
Special thank you to all of his caregivers for their loving care and support. They made his last months pleasant and comfortable. Also thank you to Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home for the arrangements.
Visitation will be at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home on December 18 from 5-7.
Funeral services for John will be at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas on Monday, December 19 at 2:00 PM where he will be laid to rest with his wife.
John continued to serve those who served our country for as long as he was capable and would have loved for his memory to be cherished by memorial donations to Operation Comfort, operationcomfort.org.
