John Henry “Jack” Scharling, Jr., age 78, entered into rest on Friday, December 8, 2023, at his residence in Aiken, SC.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Carolyn Arnold Scharling, his mother, Margaret Yvonne East Scharling; his father, John Henry “Jack” Scharling, Sr., and his brother, Henry Edwin “Harry” (Barbara) Scharling II.
Jack played on his state championship football team as an offensive lineman at Montclair High School in Montclair, New Jersey. After high school graduation, he proudly attended The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina which resulted in a blind date where he met his wife, Patricia. He then went on to serve honorably as a Captain in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war. He was a member of The Citadel Alumni Association and stayed in touch with many alumni through the years.
Jack loved watching college football, especially, Clemson, The Citadel, and the University of Georgia Bulldogs. Jack spent over three decades employed by and retired from Fluor Corporation, where he was employed as a construction Human Resources manager.
Jack was of the Baptist faith and was a faithful member of Corinth Baptist Church in New Ellenton, SC. He loved listening to Southern Gospel music. He enjoyed volunteering on a regular basis at Christ Central Aiken during his retirement years. Jack was loved and will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his sons: David Christopher (Teresa) Scharling, Summerville, SC; Scott (Polly) Scharling, Naples, FL; his sister-in-law, Karen Marie Arnold, Summerville, SC; two brothers, Bobby (Sue) Scharling, Supply, NC, and Eric (Janet) Scharling, Lewisville, NC; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and precious friends and neighbors, Michael and Louise White.
THE CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE FOR JOHN HENRY SCHARLING, JR WILL BE HELD ON: SUNDAY, DECEMBER 17TH, 2023 AT 2:00 PM AT: CORINTH BAPTIST CHURCH, 819 MAIN ST S., NEW ELLENTON, SC 29809.
