O’MARA, III, John John Francis Jack O Mara III, 64, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday June 15, 2004 at a local hospital. He was born August 7, 1939 in Charleston, a son of Marjorie Emerson O Mara and the late John Francis O Mara, Jr. Jack was a graduate of The Citadel, class of 61. While at The Citadel, he was a member of the Rifle Team, The 290 Club, a 1958 – 1959 All Conference Intercollegiate Rifle Squad Member. While on the team, he won the William Randolph Hearst Outstanding Marksmanship Award. He received the 1959 1960 Special Athletic Recognition Award, 1960 Outstanding Achievement Award, and was a member of the 1960 All Southern Conference Team. Jack was a Civil Engineer, Construction Superintendent, Project Manager, and also Owner of J & H Construction. Mr. O Mara also held a US Coast Guard 50-Ton Master License. He is survived by his wife of almost 41 years, Dorothy Caulfield O Mara; a daughter, Mikell Ann O Mara of West Ashley; his mother, Marjorie Emerson O Mara of Mt. Pleasant; a brother and sister-in-law, David E. and Kay O Mara of Mt. Pleasant; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and David Gilfillan of Mt. Pleasant; nieces and nephews, David Sytsma, Bethany Sytsma, and Erin Gilfillan; and a host of dear friends. A celebration of Jack s life will be at 4 PM, Saturday, June 19, 2004 at the MCALISTER SMITH FUNERAL HOME, MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1520 Rifle Range Rd., Mt. Pleasant.
