John E. Huguley, of Charleston, entered into eternal rest on the morning of February 15, 2010, John E. Huguley, husband of Elizabeth Hanna Huguley. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Huguley are invited to attend the funeral services of the former at Bethel United Methodist Church, 57 Pitt Street, Thursday, February 18, 2010 at one o’clock. Interment, Magnolia Cemetery. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Wednesday between five and seven o’clock. Mr. Huguley was born January 19, 1927 in Jefferson County, Alabama, the son of Charles Bannon Huguley and Hazel Hood Huguley. He attended Crafts School, Charleston High and was a graduate of The Citadel in 1951, with a B.S Degree. He served two years in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Huguley joined Legertons Office Supply in 1951 and became President of the company in 1959. He purchased the Company in 1969, ultimately becoming Chairman of the Board of Huguley’s. Mr. Huguley was active in the following civic organizations: President of Exchange Club of Charleston,1959, Charleston Retail Merchants Association 1960-61, Governor NOPA District Four 1968, Chairman United Way Fund Drive 1969, President United Way 1970, President Charleston Trident Chamber of Commerce 1971, President National Office Products Association 1971-72, President SC Historical Society 1973-74, President of Charleston Chapter Air Force Association 1978, President SC Chamber of Commerce 1983, Chairman of Charleston Development Board 1984-87, Chairman Berkley, Charleston, Dorchester Council of Governments 1986-1988. He served on Governor’s Committee for Excellence in Education 1983-84 and served as Trustee with the Historic Charleston Foundation1976-1985 and 1990-1997. He was a long term member of The Citadel Alumni Association and Brigadier Foundation. He was a member of Country Club of Charleston, Carolina Yacht Club, Honorary Life Member Hibernian Society, a Life Member of the National Office Products Association. He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years of Charleston, SC; his son: John E. Huguley, Jr. and his wife Vivian Viles of Charleston, SC; his daughter: Elizabeth Huguley Horres and her husband Edward of Williamsburg, VA; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
