Crawford, Lt. Col. John Douglas Doug CRAWFORD Lt. Col John Douglas Crawford Doug , (Ret.) U.S.M.C., 71, passed away June 5, 2005. He was born in Iowa City, Iowa September 14, 1933. Lt. Col. Crawford graduated Shattuck Prep School in Fairbolt, Minnesota and attended college at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. He graduated on June 4, 1955 where upon he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. He received a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Michigan. He married the former Mary Kathleen Kinney on June 4, 1960. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary the day before his death. In his 20 years of distinguished military service he fought in Vietnam from August 1968- August 1969, where he was awarded the Bronze Star with V , Navy Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Unit Citation Gallantry Cross Color with Palms, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device. Before his retirement in 1975, he served as attach to the Joint Chief’s of Staff at Headquarter! S Marine Corps, Washington D.C. He will be missed by his beloved wife, Mary; his four children, John D. Crawford, Jr., Laura Miller (Charles), Virginia Ginny Kammerer (Ronald), and Mary Crawford; six grandchildren, Tommy Bailey, Caley Crawford, Nathan Cramer, Hannah, Ryan, and Meghan Miller; his brother, Col (Ret.) Van L. Crawford, U.S.A.F.; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at Assumption Catholic Church with Father Fred Parke officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. this evening at the church, with a vigil service starting at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or St. Vincent de Paul of Assumption Parish. Arrangements are by Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Avenue.
