John C. Darby, Jr., 78, of Stephenville, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2008 in Glen Rose. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, December 5, 2008 at the Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Sharon Bryant officiating. Interment will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Stephenville. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday at Stephenville Funeral Home. John was born on July 12, 1930 in Winnsboro, SC to the late John C. Darby, Sr. and Agnes Gibbons Darby. He married Patricia Ann Adicks in Columbia, SC on June 10, 1951. John began his military career as a fighter pilot serving his country proudly and honorably in Korea and Vietnam. He retired 22 years later as the Base Commander at Laughlin A.F.B. Upon retirement he built his house in Stephenville and has resided in Stephenville since 1973. John graduated from The Citadel in South Carolina and earned a 2nd degree in Agri Business from Tarleton State University in 1976. He later worked as the Office Manager at Poston Feed Mill. He was a Methodist and will be remembered around Stephenville for his opinions. John is survived by his wife, Patricia Darby of Stephenville; children, Brenda Carver of Yreka, California, Lynn Hulse and husband Ed of Stephenville, Lisa West and husband Johnny of Stephenville, and John C. Darby, III and wife Sandy of Stephenville; grandchildren, Athena DelaPena, Heather Grover, Chip Gowan, Patricia Owen, Darby West, Amanda Mull, Lauren Darby, and Sarah Darby; great-grandson, Hayden Hernandez; sister, Norma Castles of South Carolina; special friend, Arnie Schecht; and his little people. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Odell Darby; and sister, Mary Ola McConnell. Memorials may be made to the Erath County Humane Society. Tags: 1951
