Date of Death: N/A 07/29/2006 Notice John Atwood Bowden, Jr. BURLINGTON ù John Atwood Bowden, Jr., 88, of 1123 Edgewood Avenue, died at noon Saturday at his home following eight weeks of illness. A native of Wilmington, he was the son of the late John A. Bowden, Sr., and Lena Stanland Bowden. He had lived in Burlington since 1924 and had been married for 56 years to Margaret Brooks Bowden of the home. Mr. Bowden had been vice president and general manager of Seven Point Hosiery and had retired from Leath, McCarthy and Maynard Hosiery after 20 years. He was a four year veteran of the Army Air Force. He graduated from Mars Hill Junior College and attended The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. Mr. Bowden was a deacon at First Presbyterian Church and a member of Alamance County Club where he enjoyed many years of golf. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, John Atwood Bowden, III, of Durham; one daughter, Susan Bowden Scott of Raleigh; one grandson, John Hughes Scott of Raleigh; one granddaughter, Margaret Elizabeth Scott of Raleigh; and two sisters, Mrs. William L. Shoffner and Mrs. Joseph H. Huff, both of Burlington. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Genie Martin. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington. At other times the family will be at the home.
