Joan Schroeder Keller, 79, of Summerville, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at Summerville Medical Center. Friends may visit at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville from 5 until 8 pm Friday evening. Funeral service will be held at Saint Paul’s Church, Summerville at 12 pm, Saturday, November 8. Ms. Keller was born May 4, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Rita Daggett Schroeder and the late Edward Schroeder, both of Brooklyn. She was a graduate of Boonton High School. She received her associate’s degree from Trident Technical College, her bachelor’s from the College of Charleston, and her master’s degree from The Citadel. She was former Department Chair of Accounting and dedicated professor at Trident Technical College. Joan also was an inspirational servant-leader for Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society: advisor of the Alpha Epsilon Omicron chapter, Carolinas Regional Coordinator, alumni advisor, and Board of Directors Alumni Achievement Award winner. Ms. Keller was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Bud” Henry Keller VI; son, Robert Martin Keller; and daughter, Carolyn Yvonne Keller. She leaves behind countless friends and was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Surviving are one son, Charles Henry Keller VI of Summerville; grandchildren, Rachel Keller and Charles Keller VII; brother, Robert Schroeder (Joan) of Deep Gap, NC; nieces, Lisa York of Asheville, NC, Stacy Harris of Macon, GA, and nephew, Marc Schroeder of Warner Robbins, GA. She also leaves behind her extended family, including her longtime companion, Christine Ann Solomon of Summerville; granddaughter, Cori Solomon; and grandson, Jeremy Solomon (Marie) of Summerville, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to support two family scholarships: the Phi Theta Kappa Carolinas Region Joan Keller Scholarship Fund, supporting the development of scholarly servant-leaders, and the Carolyn Y.
