Colonel (Ret.) Jimmy R Moore, of Springfield, VA peacefully departed this life on Monday, May 31. Born January 16, 1940, he was a native of Anderson, South Carolina, graduate of Boys High and a proud graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. He received a Masters Degree from Webster University. Having fulfilled a lifelong dream of being a soldier, he retired after a distinguished Army career spanning 30 years. His military career took the family to many locations including duty stations in Germany, Hawaii and many other stops across the US. Colonel Moore was a highly decorated soldier that included a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, Purple Heart, Legion of Merit and Combat Infantry Badge among others. He was a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College and the Army War College. He valiantly served two tours in Vietnam which included during the Tet Offensive. His last assignment was as Deputy Commander of the Military District of Washington. After retirement from the Army, he worked as a military consultant in Bosnia and Herzegovina for many years as well as in the US. His sense of duty, dignity, honor, work ethic and leadership skills earned him the respect and admiration of everyone whoever was fortunate enough to meet or work with him. He was the son of the late Roscoe and Willie (Hilliard) Moore. He is survived by Jeane (Chastain), his loving wife of 59 years, daughter Laurie (David) Nuttle of Westerville, OH, and sons Special Agent Mark (Cheryl) Moore of Bogart, GA, and LTC (Ret) Christopher (Tammy) Moore of Newnan, GA; eight grandchildren, Alexander (Perri) Nuttle of Westerville, OH, Ansley (Evan) Henke, Kerrigan, Dillon, Carley Moore of Bogart, GA, Courtney, Caitlyn and Matthew Moore of Newnan, GA. Two great-grandchildren Kyleigh Ann and Jaxson Alexander Jimmie Nuttle of Westerville, OH, brother Jerry(Pin) Moore of Ladsen, SC and Sister-in-law Judy (Russ) Myrick of Greenwood, SC, 3 nieces and 1 nephew. Lovingly known as JJ, he was known for his wit, sense of humor, passion for history and the enduring love for his family. His family was his top priority and greatest joy. He also loved tending to his yard, visiting museums, baseball and was relentless with his vacuuming. In remembrance of Jimmy’s life, the family asks that charitable donations be made to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation (www.t2t.org) the Gary Sinise Foundation (www.garysinisefoundation.org) or a charity of your choice. Colonel Moore will be honored for his patriotism with Full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date that will be posted once it is determined. Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Arlington National Cemetery is increasing its security posture and is implementing 100 % ID checks at all of its entrances. Guests are asked to allow enough time to obtain a visitor’s pass from the Visitor Control Center when entering Ft. Myer prior to the scheduled service time at the Old Post Chapel. To expedite this process attendees may apply online for a visitor’s pass up to 4 days prior to the service at https://pass.aie.army.mil/JBMHH/. Everyone attending must provide their own transportation. Arlington National Cemetery does not provide transportation.
