Jessie Emily Finucan, of Summerville, passed away peacefully at home on January 9th, 2019. A memorial gathering will be held at Summerville Country Club Pavilion in Summerville, SC on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 3 – 5 pm. The burial will be private at the family cemetery. Jessie was born November 24, 1937 in Summerville, SC, a daughter of the late Jessie Lanneau Finucan and the late John Finucan. Jessie graduated from Lander College and went on to obtain her master’s in education from The Citadel. Jessie was a teacher, administrator, and coach at Summerville High School. She was an accomplished golfer who won many titles including the Carolinas Golf Association and the SC Golf Association Women’s Championships at the Amateur, Senior and Super Senior divisions. As a coach, she led the SHS ladies basketball team and the boy’s golf team to many winning seasons. Jessie is survived by her brother, Thomas Mendenhall Finucan (Lynn), Jessie will be missed by her nieces and nephews Jack Merritt Ellis III (Jane), Laura Ellis Jones (Neyle), John Finucan Ellis (Rebecca), Kristin Finucan Kay (Stuart), Jack Theodore Limehouse Finucan (Heather), Thomas Mendenhall Finucan, Jr (Courtney). Her great-nieces and nephews Jack M Ellis IV, John H. Ellis, Rachel J. Sine, Caroline J. Leland, Jessica Ellis Maier, John Finucan Ellis Jr, Catherine Isabell Kay, Stuart W. Kay, Jr, Jack T. Limehouse Finucan, II, Garrett G Finucan. She also has 4 great-nieces and nephews. Jessie was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Gayle F. Ellis Cates.
