Lieutenant Colonel Jefferson Davis Gibson, 81, of Raleigh, NC, known as “Jerry” by his close friends, recently departed. He was born in Durham, NC and was preceded in death by his father, Jefferson Davis Gibson, Sr. and his mother, Drusilla Williams Gibson. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Snead Gibson of Raleigh.
Following graduation from The Citadel, Charleston, SC, 1958, he served in the US Army as a commissioned officer, retiring in 1978. During his military career, he served at multiple US military bases as well as assignments in Germany, Korea, Japan and Vietnam. During his service, he earned two Legions of Merit awards, two Meritorious Service medals as well as US Army Commendation Medals and other awards.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, January 10, 2017 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, with a visitation prior to service beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery in Durham with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8300 Health Park, Raleigh, NC 27615.
