Jane Hough Hassell, 84, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Dr. Thoroughgood Fleetwood Hassell entered into eternal rest Wednesday, January 8, 2014. Her Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 in First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, 53 Meeting Street at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Jane was born April 18, 1929, in Mullins, South Carolina, daughter of Dr. Thomas Bryant Hough and Mary Garnet Martin Hough. She was a graduate of Duke University and held a Master’s Degree from The Citadel. She was a retired teacher at Ashley Hall and was an active member of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church. Among her numerous organizations, Jane was an active member of Crisis Ministry, Hands of Christ, and was a volunteer for the Charleston Museum and Charleston County Park Systems. She is survived by her husband of 64 years of Charleston, SC, six daughters; Mary Lou Hassell of Limestone, TN, Rebecca Hassell of Charleston, SC, Ansley Hassell Boggs (Mac) of Spartanburg, SC, Sarah Hassell of Nashville, TN, Jane Hassell (Ben Ortega) of Fairfax, VA, Ellen H. Goodwin (Richard) of Eastover, SC; five grandchildren; Jordan Ilderton (Adam), Suzannah Farr (Jay), Thomas Ortega, Janie Goodwin and Gordon Goodwin.
