Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) James Warren Sewell was born on December 10, 1944 in Eldon, MO and passed away on Nov. 22, 2015 in Valrico, FL. He was surrounded by his children at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Joyce Sewell, of Valrico, FL, and his father, Major Ralph E. Sewell, of Eldon, MO. He is survived by his mother, Rosanne Sewell, of Eldon, MO, his son, Mark Sewell of Deltona, FL, his daughter, Melissa Mills, his grandson, Greyson Mills, and his granddaughter, Zoe Mills, all of Tullahoma, TN. LTC Sewell graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina in 1966 and began his Army career by serving two tours in Vietnam in 5th Special Forces; a Green Beret. He then continued his military career as an active duty military intelligence officer for a total of 23 years. During his career, he was awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, two Bronze Star Medals, three Meritorious Service Medals, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, six Vietnam Service Medals, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon. Post-retirement he continued to work for military contracting companies including ACS Defense and Lockheed Martin until returning to and finishing his career with the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). His overall career comprised 49 years in the field of military intelligence. LTC Sewell enjoyed travelling and did so extensively, managing to explore every continent but Antarctica. He was a World War II history buff and an avid collector of WWII books and memorabilia. He was a loyal father, a hero to his children, a caring, and constant presence in the life of his grandchildren even though they lived in Tennessee. He served his country proudly. His family will miss him dearly. Memorial services for LTC Sewell will be held at Stowers Funeral Home in Brandon, FL on Friday, November 27th at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at 1:30 P.M.
