James W. Doss, of Waleska, Ga., died Feb. 11. He was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. Afterward he attended the University of Kentucky as a graduate student and worked with the Wildcats football team as a coach and recruiter. In 1956, Doss returned to the Rome, Ga., area for nine years to teach math and to serve as football coach at the Darlington School. He also helped coach their wrestling program for five years. While at Darlington, Doss served as president of the Mid-South Athletic Conference and helped found the Darlington chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In 1966 he became a financial planner for Investors Diversified Services and worked with them for more than 30 years. He was inducted into the Rome-Floyd Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. Doss was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rome. He is survived by his wife, Jane B. Doss, 125 Broadwater Ct., Waleska, Ga., 30183-4113; three sons and a brother. Tags: 1952
