James “Jim” Vernon McKellar, 70, of Seneca, husband of Sandra C. McKellar, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014 at AnMed Health. Mr. McKellar was born in Bennettsville, SC to the late Peter Alexander, Jr. and Dorothy Commander McKellar. He was retired from Sonoco Products in Hartsville, SC. A member of Townville Presbyterian Church, he served as church Elder, Clerk of Session, and Liturgist. Mr. McKellar attended Clemson University where he was a member of the Sigma Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and played on the golf team. He was a graduate of the Citadel. Mr. McKellar was an avid golfer, a member of The Walker Golf Course, loved to fish, a Clemson fan and a 30 year member of IPTAY. He was a veteran of the US Army having served as a 1st Lieutenant during the Vietnam War, where he earned the Bronze Star for bravery, and the Army Commendation Medal.
Survivors in addition to his wife Sandra, include son, Jason Campbell McKellar of Jersey City, NJ; daughter, Julie Kathleen McKellar and fiancé David Christopher Mielech of Columbia, SC; and brother, Peter Alexander McKellar, III and wife Claudia of Mt. Pleasant, SC.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Townville Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Burial will be 2 p.m., Sunday May 4, 2014 at McCall Cemetery in Bennettsville, SC.
