Born on Aug. 11, 1923 in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Dr. Jonathan and Edith Stott Henderson. James had three sisters, Jane, Gail, and infant Katie, all of whom preceded him in passing.

James enjoyed boating, traveling, cowboy movies and exercise.
Virginia sadly passed in 1993 while residing in Cary, N.C. James rekindled a relationship with Marie Jones, who he had dated in high school. The two were married and lived at Black Moshannon and also Philipsburg. Marie passed in 2016, being married for 22 years. James moved to Brighton, Mich. where he spent his final years with family.
