Lt. Col. James Solin Barger Decatur Funeral for Lt. Col. James Solin Barger, 80, of Decatur will be today, November 16, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mickey Dalrymple and the Rev. Tony Boyles officiating. Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Barger, who died Sunday, November 14, 2010, at Decatur General Hospital, was born March 4, 1930, in Troy, N.Y., to Raymond and Lillian Barger. He was a 1951 graduate of The Citadel and served for 26 years in the U.S. Air Force. His service took him to many bases in the U.S. Lt. Col. Barger served in Vietnam and Thailand during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Auburn University as assistant professor of Aerospace studies. After retirement, Lt. Col. Barger was the senior Air Force ROTC Instructor at Decatur High School. He also worked several jobs for the State of Alabama. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Decatur. His son, Lee Barger of Colorado; and brother, Richard Barger, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Boyles Barger; two sons, Russell Barger and his wife, Faith, of Aledo, Texas, and Tony Boyles and his wife, Sherry, of Ardmore; and two grandchildren, Aaron Barger and Brittany Boyles. Pallbearers will be Royal Carpenter, Zack Terry, Hugh Hillhouse and Don Weems. Honorary pallbearers will be Hugh McCain, Mac McMurtrie and Jack Fite. Tags: 1951
