Jim, age 82 ended his journey on earth and took residence in Heaven with his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on December 1, 2018. His life was God, Family, Country, Golf, Friends, and The Citadel Football.
Jim was born October 11, 1936 in Hartsville, SC, the oldest son of the late Annie James Hollis Coker and James Reaves Coker.
He attended the Hartsville Schools and The Citadel, Class of 1959. Upon graduation he went into the USAF and became an Aircraft Commander in the Strategic Air Command as a Captain, 1959-1966.
He left the military to start his 25 year career with Eastern Air Lines becoming a Captain, and Instructor/Check Airman.
He ended his aviation career with the Federal Aviation Administration as an Aviation Safety Inspector.
Surviving is the love of his life, wife, Linda Coker, and much loved family, sons James (Allyson), Jack (Andrea), John, and daughter Elizabeth, ten grandchildren, two great grands, brother Sam (Kay), and sisters Anne (Tobe), Carolyn, and Fran (Steve).
He was predeceased by brothers Dan and Bobby.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at Mountain Hill Community Church, The Cliffs at Glassy, Landrum, SC (of which he was a member), at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 7, 2018, with a reception following in the Church Fellowship Hall, where the family will receive friends.
A graveside service will be at the Magnolia Cemetery, Hartsville, SC at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 8, 2018 directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Mountain Hill Community Church or The Citadel Football Association.
