James Peter Demetre (Jimmy), 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 5, 2024. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2024 in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race Street at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends Tuesday, one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. James was born March 10, 1935 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Peter Demetre and the late Ora Lee Melton. He was a graduate of Porter Military Academy and the Citadel. class of 1958. He was a life member of the Citadel Alumni Association. He loved all things Citadel. He had a career working with property and casualty insurance claims serving as President of Carolina Adjusting Company. Additionally, he was a life member of the Porter Military Academy Association, where he served as President and Treasurer. In 2010, he was inducted into the Porter Military Academy/Porter Gaud School Athletic Hall of Fame. Jimmy was a lifelong member of The Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity. His favorite activity was helping prepare the salads for the Greek Festival. James is survived by his son, Peter James Demetre; daughter, Michelle Ruopoli (James); three granddaughters; one great-grandchild; sister, Mary Lee Demetre Lavelle (John), and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tula Carosatos Demetre, and a brother, Melton Peter Demeter (Virginia).
