SPRINGDALE – James O. Pete Gordon, of Springdale, passed away at his beloved home on Edisto Island. Born in 1940, he was the son of the late James S. and Dorothy McNair Gordon. Pete graduated from B-C High School in 1958 and The Citadel in 1962 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Pete served in the USAF from 1962-65 when he returned to Columbia to begin his engineering career with Wilbur Smith and Associates. He worked with several companies before starting his own company, Site Consultants, Inc. In 2002, he was awarded the S.C. Engineer of the Year award by his peers. He recently served on the S.C. Board of Examiners for Engineers and Land Surveyors. Pete was an Eagle Scout as well as a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where he had served as a council member, president of LMM, an usher, and a member of various committees. He is survived by his wife, Judy Roof Gordon; his children, Blake Gordon of West Columbia and Dr. Kate Gordon of Rutherfordton, NC; his brother, Tom S. (Julia) Gordon of Lexington; his sister-in-law, Dianne Gordon of Anderson; and his brother-in-law, George Allen (Marcia) Roof. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Jack R. Gordon. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Funeral services will be at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in West Columbia Wednesday, February 22, at 4 p.m., conducted by Pastor Kay Overcash. Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel Church Scout Program.
