James Nesbit Gardner, 84, of Denver, NC entered God’s kingdom on July 8, 2014. Born December 13, 1929, the son of Samuel and Drucilla Gardner, Jim grew up in Charlotte and graduated from Central High School. In 1951, Airman Gardner entered the Air Force during the Korean War, and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for his bravery in a mission as gunner on a B-26 attack bomber. Afterwards, he graduated from the Citadel in 1957 and in June married Rosemary Gardner, his loving wife for the remaining 57 years of his life. Professionally, Jim ran a successful family business, Gardner Machinery Corporation. Spiritually, Jim was a devout Christian who had close bonds with his church family at St. Peter by the Lake Episcopal Church in Denver. Predeceased by his sister Nancy and his brother Sam, Jim is survived by his wife Rosemary Gardner, his four children, Sarah Gardner of Cary, Jimmy Gardner (Tracy) of Greensboro, Laura Aberle (Dennis) of Durham, and Nancy Schnakenberg (Jim) of Charlotte and three sweet granddaughters, Hayley and Victoria Schnakenberg and Blanca Aberle.
