James Lee Goolsby Jr. (Jay) of Apopka Florida died June 6, 2020. He had a successful coaching career in Florida. He took his teams to state championships several times and won the women’s state track championship for Palmetto Florida. Having been the citadels quarterback from 1965 to 1969 he took his love of football and spent his life coaching and teaching in high school. His focus was always on influencing young people to be successful in life mentally,emotionally, and spiritually.
He pursued two masters degrees, one in physical education from the University of Florida and one in Christian counseling from Liberty University. He used his life experiences and his higher education to always serve others. He counseled in marriage and family therapy for 20 years, while maintaining his coaching career. He was an ordained deacon not only active in First Baptist Church Palmetto Florida but his community as well. He was a life member of the citadel alumni Association.
He is survived by his wife Tina Goolsby, 26 Bay Court, Ormond Beach, FL 32174 ;Two daughters and seven grandchildren.
