James Hasford Palmer, Jr. age 75, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 29, 2011at UNC Hospital. He was a native of Fredericksburg, Virginia and the husband of 51 years to Jennie Bello Palmer who survives. Jim retired from AT& T after 35 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church and a member of the Lamplighters Sunday School class. Jim was a former member of South East Baptist Church in Greensboro where he served as a Deacon and in various capacities at the church over the years. He graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina and he received his Master’s degree from Lehigh University in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Jim served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Jennie Bello Palmer of the home; daughters, Janet Ray and her husband, Alan of Asheboro, Jeanne Womble and her husband, James of Pleasant Garden; granddaughter, Miss Chelsea Nicole Ray; sisters, Harriet Bennett of Summerfield, South Carolina, Lela Stancil of Spartanburg, South Carolina; and a sister-in-law, Naomi Palmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Hasford Palmer, Sr. and Lela Blanche Chesson Palmer and a brother, Wade Palmer. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Grove Park Baptist Church by Dr. Gene Hunsinger. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Westminster Gardens in Greensboro. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2011 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
