James “Jimmie” Jones Jr. GREENVILLE – James “Jimmie” Emerson Jones Jr., 72, husband of Nancy Stuhr Jones, died Friday, March 7, 2008, at his residence. Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late James E. Jones Sr., and Elizabeth Bradley Jones Bentley. Mr. Jones was self-employed in the commercial real estate and development business for many years in Greenville and formerly an independent land man in oil in Midland, TX, from 1961 to 1967. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as chairman of the Day School Committee, Church Council, usher, Communion Minister for shut-ins, and Lay assistant. He was a 1954 graduate of Greenville High and a 1958 graduate of The Citadel and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He attended Stetson University College of Law. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration from The Citadel. He was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by Governor Jim Hodges. An Emeritus member of The Citadel Board of Visitors, he was a member for 18 years, serving as its chairman from 1992 – 97. He was a life member of the Greenville Technical College Foundation Board where he was chairman in 1999, served two terms on the Goodwill Board, and was a member of the AAA Carolinas Board where he was chairman in 2006. A lifelong member of the YMCA, he served on the Cleveland Street and Metropolitan YMCA Boards and as chair of the Camp Greenville Board. Mr. Jones was a graduate of Leadership Greenville, Class II, past president of the North Greenville Rotary Club, past president of Goodwill Industries of Upper South Carolina, and chairman of the Board of Adjustments for the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport Planning Commission. He was also a member of the Poinsett Club. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Bradley Jones Mitchell and husband Robert of Irmo; a son, James Bentley Jones and wife Sidney Breazeale Jones of Charleston; and grandchildren, Price, Brad and Justin Mitchell.
