James “Jim” Edward Creech, 85, of Greenville, a devoted husband to Margaret Steinberg Creech, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, with his wife by his side.
Born in Seneca, SC, and raised in Greenville, SC, Jim was the son of the late Marion Acuff Creech Jr. and Ruth Green Creech. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1956, where he was both a cheerleader and the center for the Red Raider football team. Jim graduated from The Citadel in 1961. While at The Citadel, he was a member of the Summerall Guards and served as the company commander for Echo Company. In 2017, he was inducted into the Order of the Tartan at Leaders in Philanthropy.
Jim and Margaret were married at St. John’s Episcopal Church and spent 63 years together, making their home in Greenville, SC. He was a lifelong, dedicated member of Buncombe Street Methodist Church.
Whether through his employment with Hollingsworth and GE or by opening his own businesses, Creech Metal Fabrication and JE Creech & Associates, Jim was a gifted and successful businessman.
Jim loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed golfing at the Greenville Country Club, deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, flying, and relaxing on the beaches of South Carolina’s coast. His passion for the outdoors was evident in the time he spent in his yard and garden, beekeeping, and driving his tractor.
His greatest joy and accomplishment was being a grandfather, “Poppie,” to Amelia, Anna, and Gibson.
Jim’s legacy will be cherished forever by his loving wife Margaret, his children Marty Creech (wife, Nicki) and Bailey Creech McDonald; his grandchildren, Amelia Creech, Anna Creech, and Gibson McDonald; his brother John Creech (wife, Dulcie); sisters-in-law, Jane Y. Creech and Rosemary Creech; as well as many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and his beloved pup, Scoots.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Missie Creech; and his brother Tom Creech.
