James Edward Baynard, of Greensboro, NC, son of the late John Wilkinson Baynard and Marie Girroir Baynard, died Sunday, February 8, 2015. Jim was born on October 8, 1925 in Charlotte and in 1942, at the age of 17, enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served aboard a submarine, the USS Burrfish. Following his military service Jim enrolled at The Citadel where he graduated after three years in 1949 with a degree in Physics.He was a lifelong member of The Episcopal Church where he served in many capacities including Senior Warden, Treasurer, and Head of the Missions Council. Jim was an exemplary husband, father, grandfather, friend, citizen, and a Christian – a true role model.Jim worked in management in the banking and textile industries for over forty years and retired in 1989 from Burlington Industries.In addition to his parents Jim was predeceased by two brothers, John Wilkinson Baynard, Jr. and Robert Parks Baynard, and a sister, Mary Amory Baynard. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann Nicoll Baynard; two sons, David Nicoll Baynard and wife Ruthie, and Paul Rudd Baynard and wife Mary Kay; a brother, William Girroir Baynard; and five grandchildren, James States Lee Baynard, Mary Charlotte Baynard, Ann Cherry Baynard, Joseph Rudd Baynard, and David Blount Baynard. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces, Gordon Richardson Watt, III, Harriet Baynard Ham, John Wilkinson Baynard, II, Susan Baynard Clayton, Robert Parks Baynard, Jr., Barbara Baynard Finn, Elizabeth Baynard Benfield, William Girroir Baynard, Jr., Charlotte Ann Felton, and Stonewall Jacobs Felton III.A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 2 p.m. Following the service the family will greet friends in the Haywood Duke Room.The family would like to thank Dr. Mark A.
