Lamb, James D LTC (Ret) James D. Lamb August 9, 1938- January 5, 2005 COLUMBUS, GA LTC (Ret) James D. Lamb, Sr., 66, of Columbus, died Wednesday, Jan. 5 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services with Military Honors will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7 at St. Luke United Methodist Church Turner Chapel with the Rev. David Helms and the Rev. Cynthia Garrad officiating. Interment will follow at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, Ga., according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. LTC Lamb was born in Jesup, Ga., on Aug. 9, 1938, son of the late George Washington Lamb and Mary Moore Lamb. He had lived in Columbus for most of his life and was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and a former member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Ellerslie, Ga. LTC Lamb graduated from the Citadel in 1960 and retired from the U.S. Army after twenty-two years of service having served three tours in Vietnam where he received two Bronze Star Medals one with Valor and two Purple Heart Medals. After his military career he taught school at Harris County Middle School. He served as past secretary of the local SAR Chapter and served on the board of the Columbus Quarterback Club and was an active volunteer at Callaway Gardens. Survivors include his wife, Ann Moncus Lamb of Columbus; three children, Mike and his wife Ronni of Oswega, N.Y.; Jackie Willey and her husband Chris of Greenville, S.C.; and James D. Lamb, Jr., of Columbus; three grandchildren, Tom, Sarah Jane, and Mary Catherine. Logo
