CLARK, JAMES D. JAY 70 – of Avalon and formerly of Bridgeton, died Friday Evening, August 13, 2004 at South Jersey HealthCare – Regional Medical Center. The husband of the late Beverly Belcher Clark who died in 1994, he was born in Bridgeton and was the son of the late James Clark and the late Mabel Johnson Clark. Mr. Clark was a 1951 graduate of Bridgeton High School and a lifetime area resident. Following high school, he went on to study at the Perkiomen Prepatory school for one year before he entered The Citadel in South Carolina. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering. Fulfilling his obligation with the U.S. Army he served for two years as a first lieutenant working with ordinance while he was stationed in Germany. With the passing of his uncle, he assumed the role as president and owner of D.T. Fox Inc. road construction and maintenance company in Bridgeton. He operated the business for twenty five years before it closed. He was later employed by the City of Bridgeton as a traffic safety engineer but soon accepted a role in the same position for Cumberland County Department of Transportation. He retired in 1998. During his retirement he worked as a bidding consultant for several construction projects for Don Rogers Inc., the Millville Airport and the Cape May County Airport. He was a lifetime member of St. John’s First Evangelical Lutheran Church and he has served as the recording treasurer in the past. Mr. Clark was a past president of the Bridgeton YMCA and the Vine Street School PTA. He was a long time member of the Bridgeton Rotary, Italian American Civic Club, 13 Club, Breakfast Club and Ducks Unlimited. He participated as an organizer in the March of Dimes Walks and many charitable golfing tournaments as the food and refreshment chair person. He was know for his seafood specialties and enjoyed being a judge for the Cumberland County Bay Fishing Tournaments. Mr. Clark was an avid salt water fisherman and he enjoyed carving birds. He has won several awards for his carvings. He is survived by two daughters, Lee Anne Clark Clements and her husband Dr. Barton Clements of Dover, DE and M. Ellen Crane and her husband Darren of Marlton, one son, James Anderson Andy Clark and his fianc Lori Mullin of Marlton and two grandchildren, Alyssa and Jared Clements. He was preceded in death by his brother Myron Jay Clark. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning August 17th at 11 o’clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton with Pastor Dale R. Johnston of the St. John’s First Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. The interment will be made at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton. Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 9 until 11 A.M.
