James C. Spears, age 83, died Saturday, April 9, at the Presbyterian Home. He was born in Jonesville, S.C., a son of the late Forrest E. and Jimmie Clyde Spears. Jim was a graduate of The Citadel, Class of 1942, and served four years in the U.S. Army in the Pacific. He retired in 1980 as a district sales manager after 30 years of service with Laurens Glass. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Laurens, having served as an elder as well as a founding member and leader in Stephen Ministry. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dale Blakely Spears; his three children, James Spears, Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Spartanburg, Blake Spears of Greenville, Carolyn Spears Culbertson and her husband, Thomas, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and his four grandchildren, Jay and Anna Spears and James and Blake Culbertson. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 12, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Laurens. The family will greet friends in the church sanctuary following the service.
