James Clayton Baird, 69 passed away October 2, 2002. Jim was born to Fredrick and Anna Baird. He had one brother, Fredrick, Jr., who all preceded him in passing. Married 48 years to Doral Jean (Hawkinson) Baird. He leaves behind son, Mark W. (Patricia) and grandchildren, Amy Michelle and Erica Ann, and son, J. Scott (Ramona) and grandchildren, Jennifer Elizabeth and James Clayton, II. Jim was a graduate of The Citadel Military College of South Carolina in June of 1955 as a Distinguished Military Graduate and a 2nd Lieutenant. He received a B.S. in Civil Engineering and served in the Army Corps of Engineers from 1955 until 1957 when he retired as a 1st Lieutenant. He worked 18 years for American Steel and Wire Division of U.S. Steel in Chicago, New York, Salt Lake City, Utah and Tucson, Arizona, as a Senior Product Engineer. Jim was Tucson area manager of international sales for Columbia Steel Castings Company from 1975-1999 until his retirement in March of 1999. Jim was a member in good standing of Matteson Lodge 175 in Joliet, IL. Also 32nd degree mason and a member of Sabbar Shrine in Tucson. He was also a member of the Army Engineer Association and American Society of Engineers. James was an active member of Tucson Medical Center Auxiliary. In 1952 was awarded the Britton I, Budd Medal for the saving of human life by the public service company of Northern Illinois. Jim was a special, kind and compassionate man who was loved by his beloved wife, children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.
