James Alexander Mims, III, 70, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Jennifer Roe Mims entered into eternal rest Monday, March 6, 2017. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 9, 2017 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 10, 2017 in Grace United Methodist Church, 1601 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard at 2:00 p.m. Interment with military honors will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. James was born March 6, 1947 in Honolulu, Hawaii, son of the late James A. Mims, Jr., and Loris Martschink Mims. He was a graduate of Charleston High School, Associate Degree from Trident Technical College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from The Citadel, Class of 1980. James was retired from the Army Corps of Engineers and was a Navy Seabee Veteran of the Vietnam War, retired as a Lt. Commander, USNR. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Masters Touch Ministries, Charleston Rifle Club, the Deutscher Bruderliche Bun, VFW, Boy Scouts of America Troop #31, Harley enthusiast and ABATE supporter. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jennifer Roe Mims; three sons, James Alexander Mims, IV., Blake Tucker Mims, Christian William Mims all of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Joy Bolus (Rob) of James Island, SC, and Gale Mims of Charleston, SC. As well as a large extended family from Kentucky. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 1601 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard, Charleston, SC 29407.
