Jackson W. Burnett, Jr., died peacefully in his home on March 30, 2009, after having had a massive stroke in 1997. He was born June 13, 1917, in Brevard, N.C., and lived in Greenville most of his life. Jack graduated from The Citadel in 1939. He was an officer in the Army in World War II and a gentleman, always. He retired as Chairman of the Board of Southern Weaving Company in 1983 and enjoyed a retirement filled with hunting, fishing and golf. He was a member of the Greenville Country Club, the Poinsett Club, the Cotillion Club, the Buckhorn Club and the Black Gnat of Jocassee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite Pellett Burnett, who died in 1955, and his second wife, Jane White Burnett, who died in 1995. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Burnett Pamplin of Greenville; his son, Jackson W. Burnett III and his wife Sandra of Charleston; his daughter Peggy Burnett of Greenville, his daughter Sally Burnett and her husband Tom Sweeny of Charleston; his stepsons, Michael C. Crawford and his wife Betsy of Atlanta, and Jim Crawford and his wife Karen of Charles Town, W.Va.; and his stepdaughter, Nancy Soteres and her husband Jim of Atlanta, Ga.; his niece, Penny Reeves of Greenville; his nephew, Evan Pamplin and his wife William of Easley; two grandchildren; three great-nephews; one great-niece; eight stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving friends Roberta Sheppard, Deloris Johnson, Dorothy Hardy and Jean Evans, who with their families provided him comfort, care and fun throughout his illness. Memorial services will be held on Friday April 3 at 2 p.m. at Markley Chapel at Christ Church. Burial will be in the churchyard. The family will receive friends in the McCall Parlor following the service.
