Jay Topper Porter, 76, of South Pasadena, Calif., passed away peacefully April 5, 2016 outside his home enjoying the sunshine. Born Aug. 6, 1939 in Los Angeles, CA at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital, he was raised in Orlando by his loving parents, Jay and Alfreda Porter. Topper attended Edgewater High School and graduated from Marion Institute, Alabama in 1958. In 1963, he graduated from The Citadel and later obtained his M.B.A. from Rollins College. He had a successful career as a banker and commercial mortgage broker and was involved with Junior Achievement and the Jaycees. From 1983-2013, he resided in the West Palm Beach area until returning to South Pasadena in 2014 to be closer to his family. Topper enjoyed golf, but he cherished family photos and home videos, loved cheering on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and relaxing at the beach. He was a proud father and grandfather. Topper is survived by his son, David Porter (Barbara); his daughter, Cathy Ball (Brad); and his grandchildren, Ashlyn Porter, Cameron, Bryson, and Jackson Ball, Kadynce Englehardt, and Paul Kelly. A private service will be held by family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to The Citadel Foundation or National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
