James Theodore “Teddy” Venable, 68-year old Charleston native passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2015. Teddy is survived by his wife, Janice Venable, sons Brandon Ferm (Liz) and DuBose Kapeluck (Anne), and daughters Meghan Hall (Joe) and Carissa Bishop (Ryan). He is also survived by nine grandchildren. Teddy was the first son of Jay Ted Venable and Jimmie Lou Venable Hunter, both deceased. He was also predeceased by brother Jay Terry Venable. He is survived by three siblings, Ty Venable, Debbie Girlardo (Tony), and Dar Venable and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, therapists, and other health professionals who have selflessly cared for Teddy over the years, helping to extend his quality of life beyond what first seemed possible. After a term of service in the Navy during the Vietnam war, Teddy graduated from the Citadel and went on to have a successful and lengthy career in the shipping business. Teddy had a love for life that was contagious. He always filled the room with a song and a story, and was quick to tell those he loved just how proud he was of them. Teddy’s final expressed wish was for his family to “throw a party, tell some stories, tell some jokes, and don’t cry too long for me.” In lieu of flowers, Teddy would be honored by a donation to the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, honoring his expressed desire to become a mentor. His friends and family will gather to celebrate his life and legacy at a future date. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston
