James Radisson Dana, age 27, of Darlington, died a hero’s death trying to save his father, Dwight’s, life in a house fire on Sunday, November 25, 2012. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 28 at 3:00 PM in First Baptist Church in Darlington. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. Radisson, a triplet, was born on November 30, 1984 in Florence, son of Paula Fleming Dana and the late James Dwight Dana. He graduated from Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology in 2003 and graduated from The Citadel in 2007 and was in Delta Company. Prior to his studies at The Citadel, Radisson and his brothers were the first triplets in the history of the Boy Scouts to receive the Eagle Scout award at the same time. Radisson held a special place in his heart for animals, especially his Golden Retriever, Gracie; and also loved playing golf. He was pursuing a Graduate Degree in Special Education and planned on working with children with special needs. He was employed with the Darlington County School District in a Special Needs Class at St John’s Elementary School. Radisson was a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. He and his brothers grew up being acolytes at St. Matthew’s and continued to acolyte at the 11:00 p.m. service each Christmas Eve. Surviving are his mother, Paula Fleming Dana of Darlington, a brother, Robert Brenton Dana of Hartsville and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Dwight Dana and a brother, Payson Dana. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 27, at Belk Funeral Home, from 6-8 PM.
