James Blakeney Jackson, Jr., age 82, of North Myrtle Beach, passed away peacefully, February 3 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. He was born January 14, 1938, the son of the late James Blakeney Jackson, Sr. and Billie Walters Jackson, in Kannapolis, NC.
Blakeney and his sister, Nancy began their lives in Ocean Drive from 1946 until present. He attended Wampee High School and was a graduate of Baylor Military School. After graduating from The Citadel in 1960, Blakeney joined the US Army. He served as a Lieutenant from 1961-1963. Before being honorably discharged, he achieved First Lieutenant, Ranger, and Paratrooper and was a Survivor School Instructor. He was recipient of the Army Commendation Medal.
He married Martha Pierce of Charlotte, NC and had three sons, James Blakeney Jackson III, Stephen Pierce Jackson and David Matthew Jackson.
Mr. Jackson was a community leader being on city council, with his father, that created the beaches that now comprise North Myrtle Beach. Real Estate Broker in both North and South Carolina, he earned many titles: charter member of the local Jaycee Chapter; Managing Partner of Myrtle Beach RV Resort; Managing Partner of both Shadowmoss Golf Club in Charleston, SC and Beachwood Golf Club in NMB, SC; past president of the Surf Club – other accolades too numerous to list.
Survivors include his wonderful wife of 12 years, Ann Ebert Jackson; sons, Tripp, Stephen and David (Amy); five grandchildren and step children Michael (Kristian), Suni (Brad); six step-grandchildren.
Blakeney, as known, will be missed by all that knew him. He was kind, gentle and steadfast in his belief that everyone he encounted was important. Blakeney defined southern grace.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 7th from 5-7 pm in Lee Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 11 am at Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church in N. Myrtle Beach. Burial will follow at Southern Palms Memorial Gardens.
