Major General Irwin Patton Graham, US Air Force (Ret.) of San Antonio born 1927, in Charlotte, N.C. passed away Sunday, December 11, 2011 in San Antonio. General Graham served nearly 35 years in the armed forces, over 30 of that in the Air Force. His stellar career in the United Sates Air Force had him rising to Major General and serving as a deputy on the Joints Chiefs of Staff. Highlights include a short stint at the end of WWII, the last days of the Korean conflict and two tours in Vietnam. The Pacific Theater was his main area of expertise. His second area of expertise was military-politico affairs. It was in the later that he excelled spending the Shuttle Diplomacy years traveling with Henry Kissinger around the world. His main goal was to fight for Peace and Freedom. General Graham is a distinguished graduate of The Citadel, the military college of South Carolina, at Charleston, Class of 1949. He is associated with the Alamo Battalion here in San Antonio. He is also a member of Tau Beta Pi. His military decorations and awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal. He has lived in Texas in the San Antonio area for over 15 years. He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Elizabeth Taylor Graham of Galveston Texas and his son Charles Randolph Graham of San Antonio. He is survived by his two daughters, Karen Graham of Los Angeles and her husband Lewis Roth, Susan Hobson of Redding California and her husband Steve Hobson, and his two grandchildren Max Roth and Maya Roth.
