Hugh Thomas Hill, 65, of Spartanburg, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at his residence. He was a sinner saved by grace through faith in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. A native of Spartanburg County, son of the late Hubert and Thelma Staggs Hill, he was a retired Major, U.S. Air Force Veteran after 28 years of service to his country. Mr. Hill served as a Commander Pilot and was a decorated Vietnam War Veteran. He was most recently a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. Mr. Hill graduated from Chapman High School, The Citadel where he received a bachelor’s degree and Texas Christian University where he received his master’s degree. Surviving are two sons, Thomas Hill and wife Tricia of Griffin, GA and David Hill of Phnom Penh, Cambodia; a daughter, Mary Hill Luker and husband Jason of Marietta, GA; sister, Janice Petty and husband Jim of Landrum; four grandchildren, Mikayla, Joshua and Jonathan Hill and Milly Luker; and his former wife, Paulette Ballew Hill of Inman. Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Motlow Creek Baptist Church cemetery conducted by Rev. Jack Hames. Visitation will be held after the service at the gravesite. The families are at their respective homes.
