Horace Alexander “Jack” Morris, Jr., 77, husband of the late Shelby Jo Miller Morris, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston.
Born in Greenville, to the late Horace Alexander and Catherine Wilson Morris, Jack was a graduate of The Citadel (c/o 1959) where he was Third Battalion, India Company. After graduating with a Bachelors in Science of Physics, he went on to work at Morris Communications, eventually becoming CEO/President of the company until his retirement in 2005. Working in communications suited him well because Jack was one of those special people that never met a stranger. After retirement, besides spending time with his family, Jack spent much of his time traveling all over which he combined with his other two favorite pastimes: playing golf with good friends, and racing amateur Indy cars. He was an active member of Taylors First Baptist Church for over forty years.
Mr. Morris is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Tonja Morris Faulkenberry and her husband Jeff, of Greer, SC; a sister, Rose Ann Edmonds of Greenville; six grandchildren, Brittany Faulkenberry; Horace Alexander “Alex” Morris, IV, Samuel Faulkenberry, Grace Morris, Frances Morris, and Thomas Faulkenberry; and a daughter-in-law, Jacleen Aldis “Jackie” Morris, of Simpsonville, SC.
In addition to his wife and parents, Jack was predeceased by his son, Horace Alexander “Trace” Morris, III.
Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, July 12, 2015 in the sanctuary of Taylors First Baptist Church, with Lindsey O’Rear officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland East Memorial Park, 2206 Woodruff Rd., Simpsonville, SC 29681.
The family will be receiving friends at the church from 1:00 until 2:45 P.M. Sunday, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shiners Hospitals for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
