Homer Marion Dotson, 79, of Palm Coast, FL passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017 after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn J. (Padgett) Dotson. They were married on September 10, 1961 at Reformation Lutheran Church in Savannah, GA. Born in Savannah; he was the son of the late T. Homer Dotson and the late Verna F. Dotson. He was predeceased by his brother, James J. Dotson. Homer graduated from Savannah High School in 1956. He attended The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina until 1961 when he left to join the Army Reserves. Homer was passionate about his career in the railroad industry. He started working at the Florida East Coast Railway in 1966 and held many positions such as Brakeman, Conductor, Engineer and Yardmaster. He relocated to Colorado in 1977 to work as Vehicle Operations Supervisor at the Transportation Test Center in Pueblo, CO. He later worked at the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) in Philadelphia as a Transportation Manager for the Regional Rail Division until he retired in 2000. He was an active member of the National Association of Retired & Veteran Railroad Employees. Homer was a member of the Solomon’s Lodge #1, F. & A.M. for over 50 years and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. His favorite pastimes included fishing, crabbing, gardening and playing cards. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother William H. Dotson (Harriett) of Claremont, NC; his daughters, Sharon J. Harvey (John) of Exton, PA and Diane M. Dotson of Palm Coast, FL; his grandson, Matthew E. Carter of Palm Coast, FL; his granddaughter Kaitlin B. Harvey of Exton, PA and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to share in the celebration of Homer’s life on Thursday, December 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church at 2323 North State Street, Unit 112, Bunnell, FL 32110. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Homer’s name to the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House at 150 Memorial Medical Parkway, Palm Coast, FL 32164.
The family of Mr. Dotson entrusted the arrangements to Clymer Funeral Home & Cremations.
