Brown N/A Residence Approximate Date of Death Troutman, NC 05/13/2001 Top of Form 1 && Bottom of Form 1 Notice BROWN TROUTMAN – Mr. Herman Philip Brown, 73, of West Avenue died Sunday, May 13, 2001, in N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. He was born Nov. 8, 1927, in Iredell County, the son of the late Herman and Blanche Laugenour Brown. He attended Troutman schools, Mitchell College and The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. He retired as president of Troutman Chair Co. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman, where he was a past Sunday school superintendent and past president of the church council. He was a member of Troutman Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years. He served in the U.S. Army and the Air Force Reserves. He was an advisory board member for the Bank of Iredell and the United Carolina Bank. He was recognized by the American Red Cross Bloodmobile for donating over 12 gallons of blood. He was a member and past president of the Troutman Lions Club. On June 9, 1948, he married the former Jewel Gilleland, who survives. Also left to cherish his memory are a son, Phil Brown and wife Jane of Troutman; a daughter, Libby Brown of Lewisville; two sisters, Corinne Brown of Lutheran Home in Salisbury and Mrs. B.B. (Jean) Stinson of Hamlet; two grandchildren, William Brown and Claire Brown; and two stepgrandchildren, Matt Maynard and Kate Maynard. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. H.W. (Nina) Sloop of Mooresville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Troutman Funeral Home. The funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Tommy Beaver officiating. Pallbearers will be Jerry Hoover, Ronald Clodfelter, Benny Brown, Ed. Rimmer, Dan Tedder and Tommy Moore. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Troutman. Memorials may be sent to the North Carolina Lions Foundation Inc. for the work for the blind, P.O. Box 39, Sherrill’s Ford, NC 28673; Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 308, Troutman, NC 28166; or the charity of the donor’s choice. Troutman Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Brown.
