On February 3, 2017, Herman Joseph Oellerich Jr, 84, entered the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Herman was a residence of Noble Village in Roswell, Georgia where he was loved and cherished while he battled Alzheimer’s. Herman was born February 18, 1932 in Augusta, Georgia to Lucile Davis Oellerich and Herman Joseph Oellerich Sr. Herman’s love of the military began early in life. He graduated from Richmond Academy in 1949 and continued his military education at The Citadel, graduating in 1953 with a degree in civil engineering. He began working at Armco Steel Company immediately following graduation. In April of 1954 Herman reported to Ft. Belvoir, Virginia where he served in the Army Corps of Engineers. After he was honorably discharged he returned to Atlanta and continued working for Armco. He moved with Armco then to Sarasota, Florida, followed by South Bend, Indiana, Middletown, Ohio, and Ratingen, Germany. After thirty-two years he retired from Armco and in 1992 he purchased Mathews Corporation in Tampa, Florida, where he lived for thirteen years. In 1998, Herman returned to Atlanta, working for Habel Corporation, doing consulting work. He permanently retired in 2001. Herman taught Sunday School for many years, sharing his love of the Lord. He served on the board of The Bank of Tampa, The University of Tampa, Young Life, The Boys and Girls Club, The Metropolitan Ministries, and The Stonewall Jackson Foundation. Herman is survived by his loving family, his wife Pamela, his son David, (Mary Ellen) and grandchildren Meghan (Ryan) Dougovito, Katherine (Tim)Jones, and Sarah Griffen (fiance Andrew Thomas), daughter Melissa (Mike) Boettcher and grandchildren Avery (Chris) Burchett, Karly Boettcher, and Sophie Boettcher, daughter Anne (Jonathan) Bruckner and grandchildren Allie and Alex Bruckner and daughter Amy (Tom) Gordin and grandchildren Grace and Claire Gordin. He is further survived by his great grandchildren Gustav and Sloane Dougovito, Scarlett Burchett, and soon to be born Ellis Jean Jones. There will be a visitation on Monday, February 6 at First Baptist Church in Roswell, Georgia. Visitation will begin at 10 am with a service at 11 am. Lunch will be served following the service. Herman will be interned at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Herman’s name to Agape Hospice Care Inc. 1395 S Marietta Pkwy, Bldg 750 Ste 730, Marietta, GA 30067 The family would like to thank the staff of Noble Village and Agape, for their loving care.
