Herman “Brown” Thompson, age 88, of Carlton, died in his home August 23, 2008. Mr. Thompson, who had an avid affection for horses, was born in Elbert County to the late Dr. Dallas Thompson and Florence Brown Thompson. He retired as a Captain in the United States Air Force where he received The Purple Heart and served as chaplain of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Brown Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Norma Thompson of Carlton; sons, Tommy (Phyllis) Thompson of Orlando, Fla., Joe (Becky) Thompson of Gainesville, Tom (Jane) Bentley of Philadelphia, Miss.; daughter, Linda (Ron) Singerman of Warner, N.H.; grandchildren, Tish Young of Texas, Mark Thompson of Orlando, Fla., Chuck Thompson of Jasper, Traci Chadwick of Buford, Ronald Bentley of Charlottesville, Va., Mary Anderson of Co mer; nine great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Thursday, August 28, at 3 p.m. in Carlton Baptist Church with Rev. Dwight Duhon officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mr. Thompson’s name to The American Cancer Society or Carlton Baptist Church. Hicks Funeral Home, Elberton, is in charge of arrangements. Tags: 1942
