Herbert A. Nobles, 88, of Tampa, Fla., passed away on Feb. 11, 2013 peacefully at home following a brief illness. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on February 15, 2013 at St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Bushnell. Herb was born in Wichita, KS on May 14, 1924, and raised in Tacoma, Washington. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp serving his country during World War II. Herb married Gloria Sottile in June of 1947; they celebrated their 65th anniversary last year. A graduate of The Citadel, Herb followed his dream to work for the Boy Scouts of America becoming a Scout Executive in Washington and Idaho. Raising a large family mandated a career change and after a brief stint in Utah, Herb joined IBM Corporation in New York and the family moved cross country. His 25 years with IBM took him from New York to Tampa and to Tokyo, Japan. He retired in 1988, but remained active in the community. Most significant was his service as a loaned executive to the United Way of Tampa Bay for four years, and his successful management of the U.S. Census in Hillsborough County in 2000. He was an active member of St. Timothy’s for more than 30 years. He enjoyed traveling, playing golf, woodworking and reading. Herb is survived by his wife, Gloria; and five children, Michael C. Nobles of Las Vegas, NV, David A Nobles and wife Cynthia of Tampa, Cecelia Herold and husband James of Las Vegas, NV, Trudy Sargent and husband Stephen of Portland, OR, James P. Nobles and wife Pilar of Tampa; 5 grandchildren, Christopher, Joshua, Daniel, Patrick and Sarah; one great-grandchild, Christopher; and numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
