Henry L. Able, Jr., ’49
Henry LaFevere Able, Jr., 87, of Mount Pleasant, South = Carolina, husband of
Theodosia Ott Able entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 30, = 2013.
The relatives and friends of Henry Able, Jr. are invited to attend = his
Funeral Service on Saturday, February 2, 2013 in Hibben United = Methodist
Church at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial = Gardens.
The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT = PLEASANT
CHAPEL on Friday, February 1, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. Henry was = born
on August 30, 1925 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late = Henry
LaFevere Able, Sr. and Margaret Hendricks Able. Upon graduating from = North
Charleston High School in 1942, he proudly served in the United States = Navy
for three years during World War II. He later graduated from The = Citadel
with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1950, after which he spent = 16
years at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. Following this, he worked for = Naval
Electronic Systems Command (NAVELEX). During his career, he was active = in
the IEEE and served as the state chairman in 1972. Following his = retirement
in 1980, he taught at Trident Technical College and volunteered at the = East
Cooper Hospital in Mount Pleasant for ten years. He enjoyed playing = tennis
and yelling at the referees on television as he pulled for the = underdog.
Henry was also active in Hibben United Methodist Church, where he was = a
Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. He is survived by his = wife,
Theodosia Able of Mt. Pleasant, SC; son, Michael Leroy Able and his = wife,
Lynn, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandsons, Michael Jarrett Able and = Nicholas
Graham Able; son, Arnold Marcus Able and his wife, Karen, of Bowie, = MD;
grandchildren, Christopher Ryan Able, Jessica Lynn Able, and Samantha = Leigh
Able; son, Henry LaFevere Able, III; grandchildren, William Jerome = Able,
Alexander Marcus Able, and Bryan Andrew Able; great grandchildren, = Alexia
Madeline Able and Kaitlin Marie Able; son, Christopher Llewellyn Able = and
his wife, Kimberly. Henry leaves behind an extended and beloved family = of
nieces and nephews in addition to the many friends from a lifetime in = the
Lowcountry. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Able and = sister,
Marjorie Gibson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Henry’s = memory
to Hibben United Methodist Church, 690 Coleman Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC = 29464
