Henry G. “Hank” Johnson, Jr., 90, of Dallas, Texas, died Monday, December 22, 2014, in Conway Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Newberry County, SC, on January 27, 1924, he was the son of the late Annie Delle Rawls and the late Henry G. Johnson, Sr. He attended Myrtle Beach public schools, graduating from Myrtle Beach High School, and was a graduate of The Citadel. He served as a US Navy pilot and flight instructor during World War II and the Korean conflict and eventually retired from the US Navy Reserves as a full commander.
Hank was preceded in death by his second wife, Hope R. Johnson, of Dallas, Texas. Survivors include his son, Henry G. Johnson III, daughter-in-law, and two grandsons of Mount Pleasant, SC; his sister, Caroline “Johnnie” Carmichael, and two nephews and a niece of Myrtle Beach; and a stepson of Plano, Texas. Funeral services will be private.
