Harry Stroman Bagnal, Sr., of Winston Salem, NC, died Dec. 15, 2014. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called home his faithful servant Harry Bagnal in the early morning hours of December 15th. Harry was born May 5, 1928 in Winston-Salem, NC to Luther and Susie Bagnal. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Anne Broyles Bagnal. He is survived by his five children: Harry S. Bagnal, Jr. of Winston-Salem, David C. (Belinda) Bagnal of Wilmington, NC, Alice McAllister of Mt. Sterling, KY, Mary (Michael) Comer of Winston Salem, NC and Sam Bagnal of Indian Trail, NC. Harry also leaves behind his beloved grand-children Toni Therrell, Austin McAllister, Holli Akers, William Comer, David Grayson Bagnal, Anne Bagnal, Caroline Bagnal, Madison Bagnal and his beloved great granddaughter Hannah Yarbrough. Also surviving is his sister Susan Britt of Winston-Salem, NC. A dedicated Christian for his entire life, Harry served for many years as a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC. He was most recently a member of Center Grove Baptist Church in Clemmons, NC. After graduating from The Citadel and attending graduate school at UNC-Chapel Hill, Harry served in the US Army and Army Reserves from 1950 to 1955 attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. In 1966, Harry was elected to the first of four terms in the North Carolina State Senate where he became Senate Minority Leader. Before illness prevented him from working, he was president of Dimension Enterprises, a family operated lumber brokerage. Harry was also a member of the NC Forestry Association and the American Forestry Association. He was a 32 Degree Mason and member of Forsyth Lodge 707 and the Winston-Salem Consistory. The family will be receiving visitors at Frank Vogler & Sons Funeral Home on Reynolda Road between 12:00 and 1:30p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2014. At 2:00p.m. a graveside service will be held at Forsyth Memorial Park on Yadkinville Road. Special thanks to the HomeInstead and Hospice caregivers who made Harry’s final hours more comfortable.
