Harris Simon Lipsey, 87, passed away May 12, 2011. He was born in Charleston, SC , son of the late Joseph and Hannah Lipsey on October 27, 1923. He attended and graduated from the Citadel Military College in Charleston, SC with a degree in Civil Engineering. He enlisted in the Army and served in Europe from 1944 – 1946 then returned to the Citadel to graduate as part of the Class of 44 in 1947. Harris worked as a Civil Engineer for 37 years and retired from CSX Transportation in 1984. Surviving are his loving wife, Helen Dinnerstein Lipsey of 61 years; sons Bertram S. Lipsey (Vicki) and Lawrence H. Lipsey, grandson Joseph Michael Lipsey (Gwen) and their children, Jacob Van and Liam Harrison Lipsey, grandson Ben Lipsey and granddaughter Amanda Faye Lipsey. Harris has been a member of Congregation Ahavath Chesed (The Temple) for 47 years. He will be laid to rest at a graveside service in King David Section, Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd., Jacksonvlle, on Monday, May 16, 2011 at 11:00 am. Rabbi Joshua Leif and Rabbi Michael Mateuson will co-officate. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Charity of your choice.
