On December 21, 2020 Harold Martin “Hal” Donath, Jr., of Aiken, age 88, entered into eternal rest.
Hal was born on March 18, 1932 and a native of West Haven, Connecticut. He was a proud Citadel alumnus from the class of 1956. After graduation he began a 28 year career in the United States Air Force and retired with distinction as a Colonel after tours around the world. With a passion for education and learning, he completed his advanced degree in education from the University of Southern California. Additionally, he earned a bachelor of laws degree from Blackstone School of Law.
Following his military retirement, he lent his expertise to several military contractors. He was an avid golfer with 6 holes-in-one to his credit. He also practiced real estate as a third generation broker on the Florida panhandle. While his professional accomplishments are noteworthy, his pride and joy for life came from his family and friends. He supported numerous causes and was an active member of the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Niceville, Florida.
Hal was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia Ann “Patti” Keegan Donath, his parents Harold Martin Donath, Sr. and Elizabeth Rose Burness Donath, his brother William “Bill” Frederick Donath, and sisters Betty Ann Marie DeGrasse and Faith Eugenie Overby.
He is survived by his son, Michael Scott (Anita) Donath; sister, Nancy Edensword; three grandchildren – Aubrey (Jayson) Hinkson, Benjamin Donath, and Jessica (Jason) Harwood; four great-grandchildren Bryson, Mabry, Scarlett and Parker, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.
Hal will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Patti. A service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Hal’s memory to causes he held dear. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
